Overview of carbide deep hole drill inserts
Carbide deep hole drill inserts are an effective tool for deep hole drilling, which can process a wide range from mold steel, fiberglass, plastics such as Teflon to high-strength alloys such as P20 and Inconel ) deep hole machining. In deep hole processing with strict tolerance and surface roughness requirements, gun drilling can ensure the dimensional accuracy, positional accuracy and straightness of the hole.
Gun drill:
1. It is a special deep hole machining tool for external chip removal. The v-angle is 120°.
2. Special machine tool for gun drilling.
3. The cooling and chip removal method is high pressure oil cooling system.
4. There are two types of ordinary carbide and coated cutter heads.

Gun drills are an effective tool for deep hole drilling that can machine a wide range of deep holes from mold steel, fiberglass, plastics such as Teflon, to high-strength alloys such as P20 and Inconel. In deep hole processing with strict tolerance and surface roughness requirements, gun drilling can ensure the dimensional accuracy, positional accuracy and straightness of the hole.
In order to achieve satisfactory results when the gun drill can process deep holes, it is necessary to master the performance of the gun drill system (including tools, machine tools, fixtures, accessories, workpieces, control units, coolants and operating procedures). The skill level of the operator is also important. According to the structure of the workpiece and the hardness of the workpiece material, as well as the working conditions and quality requirements of the deep hole machining machine, the appropriate cutting speed, feed rate, tool geometry parameters, cemented carbide grades and coolant parameters can be selected to obtain excellent machining performance. .
In production, straight groove gun drills are used the most. According to the diameter of the gun drill and through the inner cooling hole of the transmission part, the shank and the cutter head, the gun drill can be made into two types of integral type and welded type. Its coolant is sprayed from small holes on the flank. Gun drills can have one or two circular cooling holes, or a single girdle hole.
Standard gun drills can machine holes from 1.5mm to 76.2mm in diameter and can drill up to 100 times the diameter. The specially customized gun drill can process deep holes with a diameter of 152.4mm and a depth of 5080mm.
Although the feed per revolution of the gun drill is lower, it has a larger feed per minute than the twist drill (feed per minute is equal to the feed per revolution times the speed of the tool or workpiece).
Since the cutter head is made of cemented carbide, the cutting speed of the gun drill is much higher than that of the high-speed steel drill. This increases the feed per minute of the gun drill. In addition, when high-pressure coolant is used, the chips can be effectively discharged from the machined hole, and there is no need to periodically retract the tool during the drilling process to discharge the chips.
